General information[]

Delta (/'dɛltə'/ DEL-tə; uppercase Δ, lowercase δ; Greek WP: δέλτα, délta, [ˈðelta]) is the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet WP.  In the system of Greek numerals WP, it has a value of four.  It was derived from the Phoenician letter WP dalet WP 𐤃.  Letters that come from delta include the Latin WP D WP and the Cyrillic WP Д WP.

A river delta WP (originally, the delta WP of the Nile River WP) is named so because its shape approximates the triangular uppercase letter delta.
