In Greek mythology ^WP, Perseus (ˈpɜːr.si.əs, ˈ|pɜː.sjuːs; Greek ^WP: Περσεύς, translit. ^WP Perseús) is the legendary founder of the Perseid dynasty ^WP.  He was, alongside Cadmus ^WP and Bellerophon ^WP, the greatest Greek hero ^WP and slayer of monsters before the days of Heracles.  He beheaded the Gorgon ^WP Medusa for Polydectes ^WP and saved Andromeda ^WP from the sea monster Cetus ^WP.  He was the son of Zeus ^WP and the mortal Danaë ^WP, as well as the half-brother and great-grandfather of Heracles (as they were both children of Zeus, and Heracles' mother was descended from Perseus).
