Specific information

  • Ikariam uses "s201 or s203" in its URL as the server designation for these worlds, no matter which community / language version you use.
    • Ikariam:
      • Used the Greek Alphabet  wp as names for the first twenty-four worlds(1 – 24).
      • Used Greek Immortal deities wp as names for twenty-two (22) worlds;  twenty-five through the forty-four and forty-eight (25 – 44 & 48).
      • Used Greek Mortals wp and Mythological Creatures wp as names for three worlds;  forty-five through forty-seven and forty-nine (45 – 47 & 49).
  • Ikariam used/uses a few specialty servers for the following reasons:
    • "Speed servers" (Closed) (not used often / reset after each session) - Special servers for when they need to test changes that occur at higher levels of the game and it would take too long at normal speed to reach them.  These servers run at four times (4x) the normal speed when they are used.
    • "Test servers {[ 1  /  2  (Closed) /  3  (Internal use #1) /  4  (Internal use #2) /  5  (Internal use #3) /  6  (Internal use #4)]}," - Special servers for testing the beta wp patches before they go out to the live servers.
    • "War servers [ 1  (Closed - Rounds #1 – #7) (reset after each round - 1 per language group) / 2  (Permanent Round #8 - Open in most communities until 2028)]" - Special servers that run at three times (3x) the normal speed, allows Pillaging of gold and have a different set of rules when compared to normal game servers.

General information

Ares (Ἄρης, Modern Greek  wp: Άρης) is the Greek god wp of war wp.  He is one of the Twelve Olympians  wp, and the son of Zeus  wp and Hera  wp.  In Greek literature wp, he often represents the physical or violent and untamed aspect of war, in contrast to the armored Athena  wp, whose functions as a goddess of intelligence wp include military strategy  wp and generalship wp.

The Greeks were ambivalent wp toward Ares: although he embodied the physical valor necessary for success in war, he was a dangerous force, "overwhelming, insatiable in battle, destructive, and man-slaughtering."  His sons Fear (Phobos wp) and Terror (Deimos wp) and his lover, or sister, Discord (Enyo  wp) accompanied him on his war chariot  wp.  His value as a war god is placed in doubt: during the Trojan War  wp, Ares was on the losing side, while Athena  wp, often depicted in Greek art wp as holding Nike (Victory) wp in her hand, favored the triumphant Greeks.

Ares plays a relatively limited role in Greek mythology  wp as represented in literary narratives, though his numerous love affairs and abundant offspring are often alluded wp to.  When Ares does appear in myths, he typically faces humiliation.  He is well known as the lover of Aphrodite  wp, the goddess of love, who was married to |Hephaestus, god of craftsmanship.  The most famous story related to Ares and Aphrodite  wp shows them exposed to ridicule through the wronged husband's clever device.

The counterpart of Ares among the Roman gods wp is Mars, who as a father of the Roman people was given a more important and dignified place in ancient Roman religion wp as a guardian deity wp.  Thus in the classical tradition wp of later Western art and literature wp, the mythology of the two figures becomes virtually indistinguishable.
