Cargo Ships are purchased at the Trading port. (with Cultural Exchange research)
Each Cargo Ship you buy with gold costs more than the previous one.
Each Cargo Ship you buy with ambrosia starts off at the highest amount and each additional one costs a little less than the previous one. This continues up to the 40th and the same calculation starts from scratch.

- You can purchase up to a maximum of 380 cargo ships with gold.
- You can purchase up to a maximum of 160 Phoenician Merchant Ships with ambrosia.
You can gain up to a maximum of 72 extra cargo ships, from friends that join the game through the "Invite a friend" link and they are 'active'not available since the Lobby introduction.- You can gain 2 extra cargo ships from changing your Government to either Dictatorship or Oligarchy.
- You can gain 21 extra cargo ship from the Daily login bonus.
- Cargo ships gained from friends, Governments or the Daily login bonus do not increase the cost of what your next purchasable cargo ship will cost, had you not received the extras.
- This will allow you to have a maximum of 563 cargo ships.

Ship Capacity[]
- Notes:
- Each Cargo Ship can hold 500 resources.
- Each resource has a weight of 1, meaning that each Cargo Ship can carry 500 weight.
- Each Unit has a cargo weight that varies, depending on the size of the unit.
- Larger units weight more than the smaller units thus the Cargo Ship can not carry as many of the larger units as it can the smaller units.
